West Godavari collector issues stern warning over drainage encroachments

Vijayawada: West Godavari district collector Chadalavada Nagarani on Friday issued a stern warning against encroachments obstructing natural drainage channels during her inspection of flood-affected areas in Bhimavaram Rural mandal.
“The administration will not tolerate any encroachments that cause inconvenience to others,” she cautioned, directing officials to remove all illegal structures blocking water flow.
Accompanied by officials from irrigation, revenue, and housing departments, Nagarani toured several villages—Gootlapadu, Kotha Poosala Marru, Dongapindi, Nagidipalem, and Thokathippa—to assess flood damage and waterlogging caused by Upputeru backwater.
She emphasized the need for long-term solutions focused on restoring drainage systems and preventing recurring inundation.
